Meet Giles: Scartho's Own Guide Dog To Be
Over the last year or so, Scartho Village businesses, organisations and individuals, raised over £5000 - enough to allow us to name a potential Guide Dog. This would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Carol Ward (and Grace) and we thank her for her unceasing enthusiasm for this particular charity.
As St. Giles Avenue is at the centre of the village, it was suggested that the dog be named 'Giles'. Guide Dogs gave their approval for the name - and here he is on the left.
Here's where the contact really started, with a letter from Guide Dogs welcoming us to the 'Name a Puppy Scheme' and confirming that the allocated puppy would be name 'Giles' - if male - and 'Libby' - if female. *
This is the letter we received letting us know that 'our' puppy had been born and duly named 'Giles'.*
Along with the letter came Giles' Birth Certificate which you can see below and a photograph of Giles which you can see at the top of this article or, in a larger version, beneath the Birth Certificate.
* Please note that the communications are addressed to George Taylor at Scartho Community Library as a convenience as Guide Dogs need a named person and address to send information to. It is not intended to imply that either George or the Library are of especial importance in this venture.
